In 2017, after winning the Compliment Death Match at the National Poetry Slam, he became the first person to be dubbed “the nicest poet in the country.” That same year he co-founded the Rich Oak Alchemy Open Mic as well as the Cal State East Bay Slam Poetry Club. In 2020, Jamey came second place in the Bass Schuler Entertainment America’s Best College Poet competition. His spoken word achievements also include: touring internationally; publishing two chapbooks; & performing at Twitter, Yelp, and Google Headquarters. What makes Jamey special, though, is that he is a multi-disciplinary force to be reckoned with! In addition to poetry he is also known for his screen and stage acting. He was featured in a Truth Anti Tobacco commercial which premiered at the 2018 Grammys before being shown on television stations around the country. Jamey has also been featured in stub hub ads and 2020 presidential voter PSAs. When Jamey isn’t teaching or acting, he spends his time writing plays, fiction, and music. Music was always Jamey’s first creative love and in the summer of 2022 he went back to form and began working on musical projects. He is currently writing and recording 5 albums and 3 EPs. His debut full length album, Black Boy Blues, will be released on his birthday December 12, 2024. AAMPP (African American Male Pipeline Project) and WISE (Women In Stem Education) are two groups under UC Berkeley Pre College Trio Upward Bound. The middle and high school students in the program are enrolled into a handful of college prep courses and a few electives, like Jamey’s creative writing class. After filming the movie, they invited him to give a speech at the annual gala in front of Hollywood celebrities. This was the start of Jamey’s acting career. Flash forward to today where he has been involved with a handful of impressive projects.
